Job Summary

The Custodian is responsible for ensuring a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the school campus/facility. This includes performing routine cleaning tasks, minor maintenance, and responding to cleaning and facility needs as they arise.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and wash floors, windows, walls, and other surfaces as needed.
• Empty trash and recycling containers; replace liners and dispose of waste in designated areas.
• Restock supplies in restrooms and janitorial closets (soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.).
• Set up and take down furniture and equipment for school events, meetings, or special functions.
• Monitor and report repair needs to the Facilities Manager (lighting, HVAC, plumbing, etc.).
• Perform minor maintenance (e.g., replacing light bulbs, tightening screws, patching small wall damage).
• Ensure school grounds (entryways, sidewalks) are clean and clear of debris, snow, or ice as required.
• Follow cleaning schedules and safety procedures, including proper use of cleaning chemicals.
• Secure facility doors, windows, and alarm systems when appropriate.
• Collaborate with staff and respond to custodial requests in a timely and professional manner.

Work Environment

The position involves frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals and requires physical activity such as lifting, standing, and repetitive movements. May be exposed to noise, dust, and occasional outdoor weather conditions.

Spiritual

Profess a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and has made Him both Savior and Lord as represented in Scripture (John 14:1-27; Ephesians 2:8-22) and accepts without reservation the Statement of Faith of Williston Trinity Christian School.

Have a history of faithfully attending a Bible believing church.

Have a verifiable history of living and modeling Christian character in employee's personal and professional life, serving as a Christian role model first to family and friends and then to students, parents, and fellow faculty and staff members in regard to personal judgment, dignity, and Christian living. This is expressed in such passages as Ephesians 5:21-23; Colossians 3:12-17; and, 2 Peter 1:1-10. Individual's life in Christ must continue to be faithfully pursued in and out of the workplace as a condition of continuing in this ministry leadership position.

Willing to submit to the authority of those who have oversight of the school (1 Peter 2: 9-20), and to fully cooperate with these authorities and adhere to the policies adopted by the School Board in both letter and intent.

Strive at all times to understand, appreciate, love, and nurture those entrusted to employee for instruction, supervision, and/or oversight, and must provide for their fullest spiritual, intellectual, physical, and emotional development.

Education/Skills/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Previous custodial or janitorial experience is preferred but not required.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.

Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Must pass background check as required by school policy.
